With all the extra time presented I've decided to try out some streaming services. The first being Disney +. I don't really think it's necessary unless you have kids to keep occupied, however, if you're feeling nostalgic it's there. It was a bit tough to narrow down seven films and I am not including Zenon because I don't believe there's anyone that that doesn't zoom, zoom, zoom. So without further ado here are the seven DCOM on Disney+ that you should watch and show your kids.
There's no way this movie can't be mentioned. I really wish they'd start airing it again because a lot children form strong impressions based on media, particularly if they don't live in a diverse area. This film used to come on every February which I thought was good because it was a sort of "reminder" that there's more than MLK, Malcom X and Rosa Parks. Yes, they are without a doubt significant to lives but five book reports a year is a bit much.
This was before all the shows with however many kids and demonstrates the importance of communication. Listening to your children is important, you should prepare to be sleep deprived by babies and there's always a chance you'll be surprised. That's the gist of the movie and it's filmed in a realistic light hearted manor as most dcom were; meaning it's good for subliminally teaching your kids things.
Team work makes the dream work. This was one of my favorite movies; it's a cheer movie, different to Bring It On!. DCOM were really made to tell you to want do better for yourself or at least the ones I remember watching. This particular film highlights working with others and following guidelines.
This is a comedy about the importance of family and not shitting on where they came from. This was fun to watch as a kid; I stood in front of the TV and learned the section of river dancing that was shown. This film branches more into folklore. I think I might watch this and follow up with The Leprechaun; not exactly for small children but the contrast would be interesting.
A good sports movie can always be appreciated. Especially when including sports that aren't as recognized; such as jump rope. Jump rope, skip rope, however you want to say it, is generally something categorized as a school yard activity. Double dutch is the specific roping style and takes quite a lot of work. Of course there's more to it than just jumping but you'll just have watch.
This was a good one; a good old father son acceptance story. Not all boys want to play sports and even if they do cooking is an essential life skill they should learn regardless. I just realized Disney made a lot of films with kids butting heads with their parents, which is accurate.
Surfing isn't really for me and neither is snowboarding but they work great in this film. There also appears to be a sequel that I don't know if I'll watch. I enjoy the familial/cultural importance story line; it was really cool how disney just slid in some more culturally relevant films.
What are some of your favorite disney channel original movies that you'd recommend?
